This is the 30th state championship for the school in swim and dive and its 3rd state team title this year. This fall, SHA’s soccer and field hockey teams both earned state championships.
The team recorded a new earned-points record with 568 team points, with the second-place team trailing behind with 139 points. Sacred Heart had three winning relays including state champions in the 400 freestyle, 200 freestyle and 200 medley relays. Annabel Crush won the 100 backstroke and the 200 individual medley. Teammate Claire Donan placed second in the 200 individual medley and took first place in the 100 breaststroke.
Sacred Heart’s coach, Jim Luebbe, has led the Valkyries to the Kentucky State Team Championship title nine of his thirteen seasons. Coach Luebbe was named the Kentucky High School Athletic Association 2017 Coach of the Year and the 2018 National High School Coaches Association Coach of the Year and was recently inducted into the Valkyrie Hall of Fame.
The school will celebrate the Swim and Dive team success with a pep rally at 2:15 p.m. today in the SHA gymnasium.
