Sacred Heart School for the Arts to Present a New Twist on The Nutcracker

This Ballet is performed by the SHSA Dance Ensemble with dancers from the entire Louisville community. This holiday tradition retells the story of E.T.A Hoffman’s “The Nutcracker and the Mouse King.” Clara, the Nutcracker Prince and the Mouse King enter the realm of the Sugar Plum Fairy with all the treats one can enjoy! New this year, Sacred Heart School for the Arts will be incorporating hip-hop, tap and Bollywood dance styles in the Nutcracker production.

Show Times:
December 13 at 10:00 a.m. (sensory-friendly) and 7 p.m.;
December 14 and 20 at 7 p.m.;
December 15 and 21 at 2 p.m.

Tickets can be purchased online at or at the door. For more information, call 502.897.1816. The Nutcracker will be performed in the Ursuline Arts Center.

The sensory-friendly performance will have several notable changes to appeal to those individuals with sensory-processing needs including: minimizing any potentially startling sound and lighting effects, as well as providing a visual warning before they occur; keeping the house lights partially on during the performance instead of dimming them all the way; offering “buffer seats” between groups to ensure that children have enough personal space; providing a quiet “chill-out space” outside the auditorium for children who become overstimulated and need to take a break; offering families the opportunity to visit the theater beforehand to view their seats; and ensuring a judgment-free environment where guests can feel free to vocalize or move around the theater if they need to.

Sacred Heart School for the Arts is committed to creating a positive, creative environment that promotes a love of the arts to students of all abilities.
