Sacred Heart Schools hosts US District Court Naturalization Proceedings for 71 New American Citizens

On January 28, 2025 at Sacred Heart Schools, 71 men and women from 28 countries took the Oath of Allegiance to culminate their naturalization process to become American citizens. 

The Honorable Colin H. Lindsay presided over the ceremony which turned the auditorium on Ursuline Campus into a United States District Court for the afternoon. SHS President Dr. Karen McNay spoke at the ceremony along with Sacred Heart Academy junior Kate Solon, who helped arrange the preceedings.

Dr. McNay shared her hope that the new citizens "go forth and make a positive difference," adding that "each of you bring truly unique gifts and perspectives to our community here in Louisville, in our state, Kentucky, and our nation."

Dr. McNay introduced Kate, adding that her "hard work, dedication, and leadership in orchestrating today's event...are a true testament to your commitment to service, our core values, and making a positive difference in the world."

Kate reflected that "the opportunity to experience democracy on our campus is invaluable." She spoke for all witnesses in the auditorium, including Whitney Meadows from the office of Senator Rand Paul and Cameron Davidson from the office of Representative Morgan McGarvey, that they "acknowledge and appreciate the importance of the promise made today and the strength this country offers through the people."

SHA's Madrigals choir sang The Star Spangled Banner and other patriotic tunes before the ceremony.
